In 2021, the Pingdingshan section of the Jiaozuo-Tanghe Expressway (hereinafter referred to as the Jiao-Tang Expressway) entered the pavement construction stage. This section is approximately 60 kilometers long, with a pavement concrete design grade as high as C50, placing extremely stringent requirements on the quality of manufactured sand: the fineness modulus must be stable between 2.3 and 3.0, the powder content must not exceed 5%, the mud content must be less than 1%, the crushing index must be less than 25%, and the particle shape must be rounded to ensure the workability and durability of the concrete.
However, natural sand resources are scarce along the Pingdingshan section, and long-distance transportation would significantly increase project costs. Furthermore, natural sand mining is subject to strict controls. The client faced a pressing challenge: how to find a stable and reliable source of high-quality sand nearby, given the tight construction schedule? How to utilize the abundant local pebble resources to produce manufactured sand that meets highway technical specifications? Traditional jaw crusher plus impact crusher processes resulted in poor particle shape and high needle-like and flaky content, which simply could not meet the requirements.

The jaw plates have a lifespan of 1500 to 2000 hours, the cone crusher wall and grinding bowl wall have a lifespan of 800 to 1200 hours, and the sand making machine's throwing head has a lifespan of 300 to 500 hours, ensuring controllable maintenance costs. Washing wastewater is treated by a three-stage sedimentation tank and plate and frame filter press; clean water is recycled, and mud cake is transported off-site for disposal, achieving zero discharge of production wastewater.
