Cone Crusher vs Impact Crusher: Which One Should You Buy?

Compare cone crusher and impact crusher for limestone, granite, basalt, river stone, and aggregate production based on hardness, shape, wear cost, and capacity.

Cone Crusher vs Impact Crusher: Which One Should You Buy?

Many buyers compare cone crusher and impact crusher when designing a stone crushing plant. Both machines can be used for secondary crushing, but they are not suitable for the same material and final product requirement.

An impact crusher uses impact force to break material. It is commonly used for limestone, concrete recycling, and medium-soft stone. Its main advantage is good particle shape. If the buyer wants cubic aggregate for concrete, road construction, or commercial aggregate, an impact crusher can be a good choice. However, when processing very hard or abrasive material, blow bars and liners may wear quickly.

A cone crusher uses compression crushing. It is widely used for hard and abrasive stone such as granite, basalt, river stone, iron ore, and hard mining materials. Its wear cost is usually lower than impact crusher in hard stone applications. Cone crusher output shape may not be as cubic as impact crusher, but it provides stable capacity and long service life.

The correct choice depends on four questions. What is the raw material hardness? What is the required output size? How strict is the particle shape requirement? What is the acceptable wearing parts cost? For limestone aggregate, impact crusher is often economical and efficient. For granite or basalt, cone crusher is usually the safer investment.

In some plants, both machines can be used together. For example, a jaw crusher can handle primary crushing, a cone crusher can reduce hard stone size, and a sand making machine can improve final particle shape.

SDMAK can help buyers compare cone crusher and impact crusher based on material test, capacity, final product size, and investment budget. A correct selection at the beginning can save significant maintenance cost later.
